Our vision is to create a more liveable world for everyone. As urban populations grow and people continue to migrate to urban areas for better opportunities and quality of life, it becomes more crucial for cities to allocate the right resources for sustainable growth.
To be ready to tackle climate change, combat epidemics, or create sustainable and liveable cities we need tech solutions that can understand all the city parts together and create better businesses. Therefore, building cities that “work”, requires data-driven solutions.
We have aligned our own key performance indicators with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly with goals 11 (Sustainable cities and communities) and 13 (Climate action). This means that our solution supports the goals and targets the UN has set, which they are measuring in their 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Agenda was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 and it provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action and the heart of the Agenda. We at CHAOS are committed to taking this action.
As all of the UN SDGs include several targets and indicators, we have as well tied our own key performance indicators (KPIs) to them. Here is how.
By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities, and older persons.
Indicator 11.2.1: Proportion of the population with convenient access to public transport, by sex, age, and persons with disabilities.
This indicator will be monitored by the proportion of the population with convenient access to public transport. Access to public transport is considered convenient when a stop is accessible within a walking distance along the street network of 500 meters from a reference point such as a home, school, workplace, market, etc. (Source: UN, SDG Indicators)
Our goal is to enable city development that pays attention to reachability. We believe that liveable cities are reachable, and the needed services should be possible to reach by walking.
CHAOS dashboards provide the opportunity to examine the reachability of areas in terms of services like transportation. With our dashboards, it is possible to analyse what places or services can be reached from the location of your interest by foot, bike or car within time frames of 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes.
Therefore regarding the UN’s target 11.2, it would be beneficial to evaluate different areas by the 5 minutes of walking distance, as it takes about 5 to 6 minutes for an average person to walk 500 meters.
This is just one example of the UN KPIs we do our best to support. We are continuously developing CHAOS dashboards and some of the features regarding these KPIs are under development right now.
We believe that cities can be designed to generate more equality. Smart solutions make opportunities available to everyone regardless of social class or disabilities. A smart, sustainable city is an innovative city that uses data from various physical touchpoints to improve the quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and ecological health.
