Development of Nordic’s Leading Innovation Environment

“CHAOS will involve community and different stakeholders in the design project. Through the mobile application, different stakeholders and partners can virtually and in real time create ideas for the Maria area”, according to YIT report.

Project Setting

Helsinki City has decided to reserve 70.000 sq. meters of Maria hospital area (Kamppi neighbourhood) to develop Northern Europe’s biggest and internationally renowned business and innovation campus. The future campus will attract growth companies, technology entrepreneurs, investor community, HQs of Finnish and international companies seeking new growth, service providers, and more. As the result of the city tender, YIT was chosen as a leading developer supported by a group of partners. Maria future campus will be located in between Porkkalankatu, Mechelininkatu, and Baana bicycle route, making it being situated in the middle of a functionally mixed area of housing, commercial and public services, parks, urban culture, and outdoor facilities.

Till the year 2023, YIT will be ensuring a co-creative and sustainable approach in property development by utilising the most innovative strategies for concept validation, like data approach and co-creating with users, as well as, utilising modern design solutions, like flexible modular spaces.

Goals of the project

One of the main goals of the project is to develop a commercial property as a collaboration platform with the wide variety of services open for users, guests, and local residents. From the urban planning perspective, the key goal is to ensure a sustainable project’s integration into the existing historic infrastructure. The vision and mission of the project are:

maintaining and improving the vitality of the area;
transforming a commercial property into a living urban centre.

Results

As a result of data collection, and aggregation of crowd insights and demographics, YIT was provided with the CHAOS essentials℠ license to get access to the population dynamic trend, service diversity needs, and concept options in terms of developing service infrastructure of the area to attract vendors and new users for the economic growth.
